The film is shot almost exclusively in sunshine, with the Summerfield - Leopard Skin E.P (CD) and punchy night sequence, and it is the perfect way to make the world enticing, but the audience agitated.
It looks too hot. Shamefully underrated Australian thriller really creeps under your skin and goes in some directions you definitely don't expect, especially a truly twisted final ten minutes. A superb score by Bruce Smeaton and ultra-thick atmosphere are standouts here along with the typically great performance by John not the director Waters, and it's still a unique entry in the "newcomer poking his nose where he doesn't belong" category of mysteries most famously exemplified by The Wicker Man.
I don't know why Australia made so many ominous movies about schoolteachers or why they all turned out so well, but I'm very sad to reach what is probably the end of one of my favorite mini-genres. I recently picked up Summerfield for a couple of bucks.
I knew nothing about it outside of a vague synopsis and Summerfield - Leopard Skin E.P (CD) few familiar cast members. I went in with no expectations, and what I got was a great, subdued thriller-drama. Summerfield centres on the mysterious disappearance of a teacher and the investigations of his replacement. Most of the action takes place on Summerfield, a small private island, inhabited by a strange family.
I was surprised to see that director Ken Hannam has little to his name outside of bland television productions because Summerfield looks and sounds great. The cinematography and locations it was shot mostly around Phillip Summerfield - Leopard Skin E.P (CD) and Churchill Island are stunning, and Hannam successfully captures both their…. Is the song "Oranges and Lemons" always used to be creepy? That nursery rhyme has taken a dark turn.
Subtly unnerving, but also charming as hell at the same time. New school teacher comes into an Outback town, things seem "off" And while it's much more of a drama than either of those, it's gripping in its own dreamy way, and more clever than you might give it credit for at first. Pay attention! In any case, a great Australian mystery, that has some delicious shots.
I loved the cramped POV when someone was driving a car, and the very strict shot,…. The atmosphere is perfect, the score superb, the performances spot on. I love this movie.
Almost like if Ozu were to make a murder mystery. Can not recommend this enough! From the opening hanging to the disconcerting finale I loved every minute of this underrated Australian New Wave gem. This one caught me by surprise.
Could you describe it as Aussie gothic mystery drama? Superbly atmospheric it develops into a nail-biting finale. Only 3 left in stock - order soon. Only 2 left in stock - order soon. Only 17 left in stock - order soon. Only 8 left in stock - order soon. Only 10 left in stock - order soon.
